will be treated legally and without any harm to the

Legal Treatment
This special permit can only be issued by the Environment Agency
in England and Wales, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency
in Scotland and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency in Northern
Ireland.
The permit requires compliant businesses to invest large sums of
money in providing concrete hard-standing, sealed drainage systems,
buildings and equipment. All of which are designed to prevent
the harmful substances that are present in scrap cars, from leaking
into the ground and polluting the environment.
Unfortunately, despite the environmental agencies' best efforts
to prosecute, there are still unlicensed operators in existence,
who haven't bothered to make the necessary investment, but will
readily accept scrap cars. In fact, there could be one
operating in your local area.

that scrap cars are treated in line with the permit.

When we've accepted your car, we'll give you an official DVLA
Certificate of Destruction. This can only be issued by a licensed
recycling centre and proves that you've disposed of your car
legally.

Certificate of Destruction
It is a legal requirement for all scrap cars to be issued with
an official DVLA Certificate of Destruction when they reach the end
of their useful life. However, there are plenty of people who
aren't registered to issue an official DVLA certificate, that will
readily take your car. This could land you in hot water.

The Certificate of Destruction can only be issued by authorised
treatment facilities which have been approved by DVLA.

The Certificate of Destruction is the only form of document
recognised by DVLA as proof that a car has been destroyed at an
authorised treatment facility.

If you scrap your car without obtaining an official Certificate
of Destruction you could be fined by DVLA, or even worse, if your
car ends up being returned to the road by an unscrupulous operator
you could face prosecution if it is later used for criminal
activity.

When you Trade Your Transport we will issue your Certificate of
Destruction, using our secure online link to the DVLA's vehicle
registration database. Your certificate can be issued as soon
as your car has arrived on site, and will be sent out to you by
e-mail. Don't worry if we don't have your e-mail address, as
we can post it to you.
There's no need to contact DVLA yourself, as we'll do everything
for you, giving you complete peace of mind.
Your official Certificate of Destruction will carry the DVLA
logo and will look like the image below. Please be aware of
imitations.

The aim of these tough new laws placed on businesses handling
scrap cars is to protect our environment. Only when cars have
been treated in this way can the car shells be processed at metal
recycling facilities, where traditionally just the metal has been
recovered due to its value. However, to meet the higher
recycling rates set by the regulations, the glass and plastic
material, which used to end up as landfill, is now separated for
recycling.
